Things to do in London in December

If you live in or near London, it’s likely you’ll want to come into the city at some point this Christmas. To make the most of the festive season, here are a few things you can do in London this December.

Things to do in London in December

Leadenhall Market

Head to the picturesque open market, which you’ll recognise from the likes of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for a Christmas market. From pop-ups to pubs, a perfect afternoon stop on a day trip.

Christmas at the Charles Dickens Museum

If you’re up for a bit of culture, with a twist – and the Muppet’s Christmas Carol! – then head over to the Charles Dicken Museum. They’ve decorated the museum for Christmas and included special elements to celebrate Dickens’ famous novella A Christmas Carol.

Light Trail at Eltham Palace

If you’re after some illuminations after dark then head to Eltham Palace and Gardens. Much cheaper than Kew Gardens – though their illuminations are very famous for a reason! You get a discount if you’re an English Heritage member or you travel by public transport.

See A Christmas Carol at the Old Vic Theatre

I love going to the theatre at Christmas, and what’s better than seeing A Christmas Carol on stage? This year’s production at the Old Vic in Southwark stars Christopher Eccleston as Ebenezer Scrooge.

Pantomime at the London Palladium

And finally, go and see a Pantomime this Christmas. There are a ton to choose from in London, but the most famous is the pantomime at the London Palladium. This year it is Peter Pan, starring Julian Clary, Jennifer Saunders and Nigel Havers.
