Short Books to Read at Halloween

It’s spooky season and that means it’s time for some spooktacular reads. However, if you’re time-poor like me, here are some short books to read at Halloween.

Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving

At only 56 pages long, this short story is the perfect Halloween read for people looking for a quick read.

The Lottery by Shirley Jackson

Another short story, with a creepy edge rather than ‘scary’. If you’re a fan of The Hunger Games you’ll enjoy this ‘make-you-think’ short story from the queen of creepy fiction.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

This is Oscar Wilde’s only completed novel and it’s a masterpiece about vanity, narcissism, and sexuality. It’s 252 pages and a fast-paced read. Very easy to finish within a couple of sittings, so good for a commute.

And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie

This is Agatha Christie’s most famous crime novel, and it’s a standalone of epic proportions. The many adaptations of it are excellent, but nothing beats the book. It’s incredibly fast-paced and rich with clever details. It always leaves you guessing. Until the very end.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone by J.K. Rowling

The first in the series is less than 300 pages and a fun ride. Even if you disagree with the author’s views, as I do, it’s still a solid read for anyone no matter their age. You’ve got to love the troll scene at Halloween in the first book.

Grimms Fairy Tales by The Brother’s Grimm

You don’t have to read all of these tales to enjoy them this Halloween. Instead, dip in and out of the collection for an enjoyable reading experience. A lot of them are a lot darker than most people realise.

And there have it. A list of short books to read at Halloween. Whats books will you be reading this spooky season? Let me know in the comments below.
