What I Learned in 2023

I reduced my posting from three times a week to twice a week in 2023 as a result of a demanding new job. At first, I was hesitant as I thought it would un-do all of the SEO work I had undertaken in 2022. However, I was wrong. Apart from a 5% decrease in visitors, I’ve only incurred a slight dip in visitors and overall views.

Social support is important but not crucial to success. With the changing social landscape, from Twitter no longer allowing automatic posts to Facebook being useless when it comes to discoverability, the only real social platform I find helpful for finding readers is Pinterest. SEO is more important than a strong social brand when it comes to a micro-influencer site.

My blog is for fun, and when it stops being fun it’s time to stop doing it. I’ve now been sharing posts on EllesBellesNotebook for nearly eight years. My aim for 2024 is to continue reducing the workload but keep up the quality. I’m playing around with the idea of a Substack to replace my WordPress site altogether, but I’m not willing to drop EllesBellesNotebook entirely.

So for now, I’m going to continue posting between 1-2 posts per week, and continue to share via Facebook and Pinterest as and when I have time, and focus on SEO for my older posts that seem to gain traction over time rather than in the moment.
