New Year’s Resolution Update 2022
2023 is almost here! But before we look forwards it’s time to look backward with my New Year’s Resolution Update 2022.
This is a chance for me to see how I did with my New Year’s Resolutions 2022.
I sent myself five New Year’s Resolutions for 2022 and I think I did pretty well. I stupidly stopped tracking more of these resolutions around April 2022 though, so some of them are slightly redundant, but nevertheless, I did achieve some elements of my New Year’s Resolutions for this year.
What were my New Year’s Resolutions 2022?
Read 100 Books
I managed to read 93 books in 2022, which really isn’t bad given that I’ve been in a reading slump since June 2022. For half the year I really felt out of action when it came to reading, and I couldn’t find the motivation or time to pick up a book. But with the help of audiobooks and some well-timed 30 Books in 30 Day Challenges I did manage to build up my Goodreads Challenge for 2022.
Develop my Career
This was my slightly cryptic way of saying: Get a new job! Something you don’t want to advertise on social media when you’re still in your previous one. I did manage to get a new job, and I’m loving it. In June 2022 I became Head of Fiction Marketing at Bonnier Books UK, climbing the corporate ladder and working with some fantastic new colleagues and authors.
I did not get back into freelance journalism, and I can slightly feel the door closing on that line of work for now. But I am still blogging x3 times a week and making more money through this line of side hustle.
Do at least 50,000 Steps a Week
This is the resolution that I stopped tracking pretty early on in the year, but given my new commute, a few holidays, and some out-out activities, I do think I’ve probably averaged about 40-50,000 steps per week for most of 2022 if not all.
Experience New Things
In 2022 I really allowed myself to say yes to a lot of things. I went clubbing with friends, had many drinks after work, booked brunches, and attended weddings. I didn’t date or do extreme sports, but I did try new things from DuoLingo for a year, going to Secret Cinema and seeing my friends more regularly. It was a good year for new things.
Write a new book
This New Year’s Resolution was touch and go for a while. I really got into writing in the early part of 2022 but then some family matters came into play and from April until October I didn’t write a single thing. I did some editing but didn’t work on my new novel at all. Thankfully in late October my need to write picked up and I returned to my new, novel which I miraculously finished at the end of November 2022 and sent to my agent. I will be editing it in the New Year, and I can’t wait to start the next book in 2023.
But that’s my New Year’s Resolution Update 2022. Did you manage to achieve your New Year’s Resolutions in 2022? Let me know in the comments below.
