My West End Wishlist 2022
I recently did a post about the West End shows I’ve seen and loved. Today I thought I would share my West End Wishlist. These are the shows I would love to see on the West End in the next year or so.
Moulin Rouge
I was really skeptical when I heard Moulin Rouge was coming to the stage, but I always thought I would go and see it. I’ve since only heard great things but the tickets are SO expensive that I think it may be a year or two before I finally get to see it. But I’m looking forward to it.
Frozen
Another show I was skeptical about, but always knew would do well was Frozen. A few people I know have seen this now and really enjoyed it; it’s not just for children like I was expecting. I don’t mind the film – even though I thought I would never want to hear Let It Go again after working as a Christmas Elf during that year.
Phantom of the Opera
I’ve never been interested in Phantom of the Opera and honestly, having read the book I’m not that impressed with the story. But I’ve been told it’s a spectacle and worth seeing, so it’s on the list.
Jesus Christ Superstar
I really enjoy the music and staging of Jesus Christ Superstar and would love to see it on stage or in concert. The music is more in line with We Will Rock You than Joseph and his Technicolour Dreamcoat so a lot more surprising than people think.
Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat
Speaking of Joseph, I would also really like to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat on the stage or in concert. I was in this play as a teenager – I played Daniel, one of the brothers – so I know the story and songs fairly well.
Gypsy
I recently watched the West End recording of Imelda Staunton playing Rose in Gypsy and I’m so sorry I did not get to see that live on-stage. Her performance was incredible and it’s one of my favourite, yet most underrated musicals.
Rent
And finally, I’d love to see Rent on-stage. I’ve seen the film which is really good and I’ve read a lot about the original production and Jonathan Larsen’s life but never seen the stage show. I wouldn’t mind seeing this off-West End but if it ever comes back to the West End stage then I will try to get tickets.
