Looking back on my New Years Resolutions for 2020

I’m a fan of New Years Resolutions, but I know a lot of people aren’t. I understand that the idea of putting pressure on yourself to achieve something isn’t always healthy, but I respond well to goals. Also, I try to make my New Years Resolutions fun.

Here’s a recap of what I wanted to achieve in 2020 – surviving a Global Pandemic was not something I thought I would have to do!

Read 100 Books

Each year I set myself a Reading Challenge on Goodreads. In 2015 I set it at 50 books, 2016 at 60 books etc. In 2020 I wanted to read 100 books and I succeeded! I read 114 books in total and that is an amazing achievement to me.

Become a Published Novelist

So… this didn’t happen in 2020. I managed a lot of things with regards to my writing in 2020 but I wasn’t published as a novelist. We’ll see happens in 2021.

Get Healthy

My sister got married in October and I was keen to get fit and healthy for the ceremony. Lockdown kind of put paid to that. I did about 1,500 steps a day, maximum for 5 months. And that was it. Needless to say I put on weight and was the heaviest I’ve ever been. I was eating well – probably too well – but I wasn’t as healthy this year as I had intended when I set my resolutions.

Be on TV

So, I recorded something for TV in the Summer of 2019 which still hasn’t aired and I think is very unlikely too now. Whilst I may not have been on TV, I did get interviewed by Mail+ for an online news story. Freelancing has been something I’ve chosen to put on pause due to COVID. Since I work full-time, I didn’t want to take opportunities away from other people who needed the work. I’ve just started pitching again and fingers crossed 2021 is more successful on the freelance front.

All in all, looking back at my New Years Resolutions for 2020 I’m not disappointed by what I achieved. Or didn’t achieve, as the case may be.

It was a ridiculously odd year, that none of us could plan for. And I still managed tons, which I’ll include in my Highlights of 2020 post that’s out tomorrow.

As for my New Years Resolutions for 2021, you’ll have to wait until New Years Day to see what I’ve got planned for 2021…
