Looking Back at my New Years Resolutions for 2021
I love this time of year. It gives me a chance to reflect on the years that passed and all that I want to achieve for the next. It’s time to look back at my New Years Resolutions for 2021.
I set myself six New Years Resolutions for 2021 and I’d say I’ve achieved about 2 of them. Not bad given the year I’ve had. And to be honest, it wouldn’t have mattered if I met none of them. They are merely hopes for the year, rather than hard and fast instructions in my mind.
I just missed out on this goal as I only managed to read 98 in 2021. Not far off, and still a fantastic amount of books read, but I’m sad not to have hit this goal after 5 years of making it.
Edit a Novel
I just about managed this in 2021. I have recently edited a novel I wrote in 2020, but it was a fairly minor edit. In 2022, I would prefer to write and edit a brand new novel.
Go to Disneyland Paris
Don’t even get me started… Lockdown. A shitty travel agency that steals people’s money. Ignorant and less-than-helpful Disneyland Paris reps… No. I did not go to Disneyland Paris. We’ve since rebooked (for the third time) with the most refundable package you’ll ever come across to avoid all the drama of getting our money back in the first place.
Earn a substantial income as a writer
Without disclosing an amount, I made a solid income from writing this year. Not enough to quit the day job, but enough that I was quite comfortable for a little while. Now the question is, can I make a sustainable income as a writer?
Focus on myself
Well, this went down the swanny. I was hoping to do a lot of self-care this year, and due to circumstances relating to family health and ceiling collapses – don’t ask – it wasn’t possible. There is a time to put yourself first and this year was not one of those years for me. Maybe 2022, maybe not. So long as focus on myself a bit more than I do currently in the New Year, I’ll be happy.
But there we have it. I’ve been quite down on 2021 but honestly, it’s been a hard and in places horrible year. And quite honestly I cannot wait to see the back of it.
What about you? Did you achieve any of your New Years Resolutions for 2021? Are you happy with the year you’ve had? Let me know in the comments below.
