Finding Our Millennial Selves in Fiction

Today’s episode of This Millennial Mess is a little different from usual because today I’m talking about fiction! This week’s episode features a discussion about finding our millennial selves in fiction.

I’ve taken three books featuring millennial characters and broken them down to show how millennials are depicted within the written word and the key themes that shine throughout. The most popular theme is: coming-of-age.

Puberty is not the only coming-of-age we face. We millennials are currently going through a second puberty, this time an emotional one. Yippee.

The three books I use are written by three fabulous women and are set in varying locations within separate sub-genres. The books in question are Our Stop by Laura Jane Williams – which, full disclosure I am currently doing the marketing for in my day job – the second book is Living the Dream by Lauren Berry and finally, I discuss Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler.

You’ll have to listen to the full episode to find out what my conclusions were about these three books and their relevance to millennialism but trust me when I say they’re all excellent reads regardless.

Until next week! Enjoy.
