I’m back with yet another Fairytales, Legends, and Myth Retellings list. I’m a massive of these types of books and this niche genre. Thankfully they’ve been growing in popularity which means: more books to share!
Here is a selection of retellings I think you should add to your TBR list in 2022.
Elektra by Jennifer Saint
Elektra is a greek myth retelling of the character of Elektra, the doomed daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra. Jennifer Saint’s debut Ariadne was really exciting, and Elektra is set to follow suit.
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi
The Star-Touched Queen is a Greek Myth retelling of Hades and Persephone. When Maya’s father arranges a marriage between her and the Raja of Akaran, her life turns upside down. But becoming Raja’s Queen means learning some terrible secrets.
Never Look Back by Liliam Rivera
A young adult greek myth retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice. Set in the Bronx, Eury recently lost everything in Hurricane Maria, but if that wasn’t bad enough she’s also being haunted by an evil spirit. Pheus, a young lad with a beautiful voice and buckets of charm fulls of Eury instantly when he meets her. But despite the love the two of them have, the danger that Eury is in could pull them apart forever.
Legendborn by Tracy Deonn
The first book in a new young adult fantasy series. Legendborn is a retelling of the Arthurian legend of the Knights at the Round Table. Bree Matthews is mourning her late mother when she discovers that she’s a member of the Legendborn, a secret society for the descendants of the Knights of the Round Table. A magical war is coming and Bree has to decide whether to join the fight or use her newly discovered magic to take the secretive and dangerous society down.
Sistersong by Lucy Holland
A Dark Ages/Arthurian retelling based on the British Ballad ‘The Twa Sisters’. This story also features some classic Arthurian characters like Tristan and Merlin (known as Mrydhin). Set during the time when Saxons were invading and conquering Britain, three siblings become entangled in a web of treachery and their stories are going to shape the destiny of Britain.
