Books I’ve Wanted to Read for the Longest Time According to Goodreads

So, I’ve become slightly addicted to looking through my Goodreads of late and finding out things regarding my reading habits. Today I thought I would share a list of the books I’ve wanted to read for the longest time according to Goodreads.

Basically, which books have been on my ‘Want to Read’ list for the longest time on Goodreads. Some non-surprises coming your way!

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee (Added: 29th July 2014)

Yes, I have still not read To Kill a Mockingbird despite saying I would probably every month since starting the blog nearly eight years ago.

The Diary of a Young Girl by Anne Frank (Added: 5th January 2015)

The Diary of Anne Frank is going to be a hard and harrowing read, and also irritating – she is a teenager after all! – and I just know I need to be in a solid headspace to read her innocent words. I also can’t help but feel I’m invading her space when I go to pick up her diary. I’ll get over it someday, I’m sure.

Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas (Added: 6th January 2015)

Back in 2015, I was still reading a lot of series titles like Cinder and The Maze Runner. So it’s no wonder I wanted to read Throne of Glass and start this popular series. However, I’ve seen been put off by the reviews that the series isn’t actually that good. But I have the hardback…and it has sprayed edges…so we’ll see. I might still read it.

Belzhar by Meg Wolitzer (Added: 8th January 2015)

I still can’t believe I haven’t read this book. It’s short and I’ve read The Bell Jar – which is a pivotal inspiration for the book – so I should just jump right in. But nope, six years and counting.

1984 by George Orwell (Added: 20th February 2015)

Last year, I read Animal Farm but I’ve still not read 1984, understandably I wasn’t really in the mood during COVID.

A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Mass (Added: 4th March 2015)

Another Sarah J. Maas book and this is one I started but never got more than two chapters in before putting down again. Apparently, it’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling with lots of smut, but I’ve not heard amazing things – again. Maybe I’ll pick this up when I go through a fairytale retelling phase again.

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertelli (Added: 23rd March 2015)

Another Young Adult novel. I was 20-years-old in 2015 so I was definitely going through an end of teen years phase. This is one I’ve heard only good things about, but I’ve not had the urge to pick up in a while. I think I’ve outgrown YA fiction, but you never know when the mood will strike.

Orange is the New Black by Piper Kernan (Added: 29th March 2015)

I loved the Orange is the New Black Netflix series in the first few years, it got silly by the end – although the punches still landed hard. I thought the book would be a harrowing insight into the world of women’s prisons, but then I was told it wasn’t worth the read and the story is greatly exaggerated for TV. What you really have is a white woman growing a conscience for a stupid crime and then regretting it.

Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay (Added: 1st October 2015)

In 2015-2017 I went through a massive feminist phase. I read all the feminist literature I could and attended tons of seminars and events. Sadly, I never got around to reading Bad Feminist which is a collection of essays, edited by Roxane Gay. But I would like to read it one day.

Quite a few books worth reading on this list, and some not so much. I won’t say I’ll be reading any of these soon, as honestly, I have no idea. But ideally, I’d like to get to some of these books before I turn grey. Especially as they’ve been on my wishlist for some long according to Goodreads. But we’ll see.
