I have my eyes on quite a few books in 2021, otherwise known as the books I can’t wait to read in 2021.
One of the joys and hardships of working in publishing is that you hear about books way before anyone else, but it’s often way before they’re published as well.

Here is a look at some of the books I can’t wait to read in 2021.
Ariadne by Jennifer Saint – Out 29th April 2021
I adore Greek Myth re-tellings. So, of course, when I saw that there was a re-telling about Ariadne coming out, I freaked out. I’ve no shame in admitting that I’ve already begged the publisher for a proof copy because I genuinely cannot wait.
The Road Trip by Beth O’Leary – Out 29th April 2021
After reading The Flatshare and starting The Switch in 2020, I’m definitely adding The Road Trip to my wishlist for 2021. Beth O’Leary seems to write so effortlessly and warmly that reading each of her books is like getting a hug from your favourite person.
Threadneedle by Cari Thomas – Out 27th May 2021
A HarperFiction book which I will be asking my colleagues to send me a proof copy of (just FYI team!). This debut fantasy sounds fantastic and unique. It even has a scene set in the British Library in it – that makes it a must-read in my book. And also, the cover!
People Person by Candice Carty-Williams – Out 2nd September 2021
After reading the break-out book Queenie, I’m really looking forward to seeing what Candice Carty-Williams offers us next. There’s no plot, cover or even general teaser about this book yet. But that doesn’t mean I’m not excited about it.
We Need to Talk About Money by Otegha Ugwaba – Out 29th April 2021
A non-fiction book from the author of The Little Black Book. Otegha is a hilarious and lovely woman, and this book is apparently unflinchingly honest about her finances and the troubles women face on the days when it comes to money. This book focuses on not just handling and saving money, but also the interpretation of society of a woman with money of her own.
Girl A by Abigail Dean – Out 21st January 2021
To say this book is buzzy in the publishing industry is an understatement. Everyone I know wants to get their hands on this book, and rightly so. I’ve yet to hear a single bad review and I’ve spoken to over 50 people about it! Insane! And an utter global must-read for 2021.
Alonement by Francesca Specter – Out 4th March 2021
I’ve previously written about being lonely and being alone for Huffington Post, and on social media in general. So when Francesca Specter started the Atonement podcast and even patented the word I felt I had found a kindred spirit. I can’t wait to read her non-fiction book all about loneliness and alonement.
Careless by Kirsty Capes – Out 27th May 2021
I came across this when browsing Amazon and after reading the blurb I’m intrigued – not to mention I work with Kirsty at HarperCollins! When a 15-year-old gets pregnant she wonders who to tell: her social worker, her foster family, or the boy? Love doesn’t come without conditions. A new literary novel I’m very excited about.
Millennial Love by Olivia Petter – Out 10th June 2021
Olivia Petter is a journalist at the Independent and host of the podcast Millennial Love. She’s recently been commissioned to write a book of the same name, to explore dating in the millennial era. As someone who hates dating and would appreciate some tips, I’m looking forward to reading what she has to say.
That is just a small collection of books I cannot wait to read in 2021. There are plenty of other amazing books of fiction and non-fiction that I’m sure I’ll discover as the year progresses. Not to mention, of course, all of the amazing titles I’ll be publishing at Avon Books UK!
