Bookish Resolutions for 2021

I’m surprised that this year was such a good reading year for me after everything that has happened. Surprisingly, I’ve managed to achieve most of my Bookish Resolutions for 2020! Now it’s time to set some new Bookish Resolutions for 2021.

First, let’s recap my resolutions for 2020.

Bookish Resolutions 2020

Read 100 Books

I always said I would aim to read 100 a year and after that, I would allow myself to stop with reading challenges. 100 books a year is just under 2 books a week, so that’s a lot! And by some miracle, I managed it! I read 114 books this year.

Read 5 Classics

For the last few years, I’ve put ‘Read 5 Classics’ on my Bookish Resolutions but I’ve not met it… In 2020 that changed. I read 15 classics in 2020. The most I’ve read since I was studying for A Levels.

Listen to 60 Audiobooks

In 2019 I read 50 Audiobooks, so I assumed I would be able to read the same or more… in 2020 though I read 49. I am close to hitting the same as last year, but not quite what I aimed for in 2020. I think the lack of commuting was a large factor in why I didn’t listen to more audiobooks this year.

Read 75 NEW books

Out of 114 books, I managed to read 104 NEW reads. The Harry Potter series was pretty much where I did the most re-reading since I re-read the series every year without fail.

Now it’s time to set my Bookish Resolutions for 2021.

Bookish Resolutions 2021

Read 101 Books

100 books a year is quite a lot as it is, but I always like to set myself a new challenge. And since it’s 2021 I thought why not make it an odd number? 101 books it is.

Read 10 books with over 700 pages

I’ve decided to try a new challenge for 2021. I have my eye on quite a few big reads at the minute so I thought I would make it a bookish resolution to read 10 books with over 700 pages in 2021. That should keep me busy.

Review 21 books

I’m terrible at reviewing books on websites, besides my own, and I work in publishing! Worst than that, I work in marketing! So this year I’m going to write at least 21 reviews on Goodreads, Amazon and/or Waterstones. Hopefully all three.

Read 90 NEW books

After reading nearly 100 new books in 2020, I’m going to try to keep up this new trend and read 90 new books in 2021 as well. I’m not sure how this will go, but I do have my eye on a lot of new releases in 2021.

Finish a series (not Harry Potter) in 2021

I haven’t read a series – aside from Harry Potter – in a while. In 2021 I want to see if I can change that and read/finish an entirely new series, however long it may be.

And that’s it for my Bookish Resolutions for 2021. What are your Bookish Resolutions for 2021? Let me know in the comments below. Happy Reading.

  1. I would like to finally listen to my first audiobook and read more classics. Do you have any recommendations for a book that translates super well in audio form? And do you have any must-read classic in mind?

    1. North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell, narrated by Juliet Stevenson was great. Otherwise, something like The Secret Garden or Pride & Prejudice to ease yourself in. Enjoy!
