Bohemian Rhapsody Book Tag
This book tag combines two things I love: books and the band Queen. The tag was created by Bookish Underdog, and I stumbled across it on Zezee with Books blog.
‘Mama, just killed a man’ – A fictional character’s death that really upset you?
I won’t spoil which character it was, but I read The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai and I was a wreck after reading it. The character deaths are many, as the story is set during the Aids crisis, but there is one that destroyed me.
‘Carry on, carry on’ – Pick a book that was hard to keep reading but was worth it in the end.
I would say Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine is was my first DNF to great read. I attempted to read it three times before I eventually managed it. After the first 30-40% it was so gripping I had to keep reading. The ending was a genuine surprise and she really was an unlikely heroine who I fell in love with.
‘Sends shivers down my spine’ – Pick a book with a beautiful spine/cover.
Hmm… I would say Midnight in Everwood by M.A. Kuzanir. It is a retelling of the Nutcracker and the cover emulates that Christmassy, snowy aspect of the ballet. It’s a beautiful cover and I highly recommend it.
‘Goodbye everybody, I’ve got to go’ – A book that you couldn’t finish.
I just could not get into The Catcher in the Rye. I know it’s some sort of masterpiece and some people get a lot from it, but I am not one of them. For me, it was incredibly boring and not worth my time.
‘Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening’ – Which book did you find very, very frightening?
I’m not one for scary reads, so I don’t have many answers to this question. But I would say Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks was occasionally frightening. Particularly the scenes when they’re buried alive and you don’t know if they’ll survive. It’s a very compelling read so you do feel like you’re trapped with them.
‘Bismillah, no! We will not let you go’ – Which book/series do you wish there had been more of?
Well, I wish George R. R. Martin would finish the Song of Fire of Ice series, but I doubt that will happen. Otherwise, I wish that the Bridgerton series would continue.
‘Mamma Mia, Mamma Mia’ – Which book/series should be made into a musical?
Perhaps, War and Peace. There is plenty of material and so many characters that an ensemble cast musical might make it more accessible.
‘Oh baby, can’t do this to me, baby’ – Pick a moment from a book where you felt like the author was being mean to you?
In Apache by Tanya Landman, there is a devastating scene that really broke my heart and I didn’t think needed to happen. As a child reading it, as I was only twelve the first time I read it, I’d say it definitely felt like it was a personal attack.
‘Nothing really matters to me’ – Which character(s) did you not care about?
I really didn’t care for Gregory Bridgertonl, out of the Bridgerton series. He was my least favourite Bridgerton sibling and his story is one that I can’t even remember it was that bland. The elder siblings’ stories were much more interesting.
But that’s it for the Bohemian Rhapsody Book Tag. What would your answers be? Let me know in the comments below.
