Best Novels to Read When You’re Bored
Ever had one of those days when you’re bored and you can’t think of anything to do? Then read a book! Here is a list of the best novels to read when you’re feeling bored.
Best Novels to Read When You’re Bored
The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai
This book will pull you in and won’t let go. Following to stories, one set in the 1980s and the other in 2015, you follow connected characters as they navigate, family and loss due to the AIDs crisis. Utterly gripping, and one hell of a tearjerker so have tissues at the ready.
The Best of Me by Nicholas Sparks
There is something about Nicholas Sparks’ books that just work for a lazy, or bored, afternoon. During the lockdown, when I was super bored I used to get into bed and just read. Nicholas Sparks was my go-to author as his books are equal parts funny, weepy and dramatic. And easy to get through at speed.
And Then They Were Gone by Agatha Christie
There’s a reason that this is her bestselling book. It is demanding. You need to know what happens. And the plot twists are innumerable.
Heartstopper by Alice Oseman
The best novels to read when bored, I find, are ones that are entertaining but quick. Graphic novels fit that bill perfectly and Heartstopper by Alice Oseman is a must-read graphic novel. With LGBT themes, romance, and a lot of laughs, there’s something for everyone in this book series.
When I Grow Up I Want To Be Mary Beard by Megan Beech
I love this poetry collection from Megan Beech. It’s hilarious and feminist, and like many poetry collections, you can read it in one sitting and then just re-read your favourites.
