It’s time for another post in my Best Books Beginning with… series. Today’s book recommendations are the Best Books Beginning with F. These are the books I’ve read that I recommend.

The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien

First up, is the first book in the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy. It’s a tough read, despite J.R.R. Tolkien claiming he wrote it for ‘all’ readers. However, the pay-off is a good one. I’ve found that if you haven’t seen the films people enjoy them more, although I doubt I could have read them without first seeing the movies. So you’ll have to make your choice before starting.

The Five by Hallie Rubenhold

A personal favourite of mine. This historical non-fiction book tells the story of the five women killed by the man nicknamed Jack the Ripper. From their birth to the days after their death, this book shares in minute details the truth of their lives. I had no idea that some of the women were married, and were not in fact prostitutes. And the women that were prostitutes were often in that profession to feed their families and survive. This book gave these women their lives back, nearly 200 years after their death. It’s such an important read.

The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary

If you’re looking for an amazing women’s fiction novel then I highly recommend The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary. This book is as good as the reviews and hype suggest. It will give you all the romantic feels.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

If you’re looking for a classic then I recommend Frankenstein. However, if you’re expecting the Frankenstein of the movies and TV series, you’ll find something different. The original story is very much about science and regrets and focuses more on Frankenstein’s misery after creating his ‘monster’ than anything else.

The Friendship Cure by Kate Leaver

If you’ve ever had a friendship break-up that feels worse than a romantic break-up, then this is the book for you. It explains friendship in a critical way without being too preachy or philosophical. There are plenty of facts about the different types of friendships and the importance of friendship in our lives.

Frenchman’s Creek by Daphne Du Maurier

And finally, an under-hyped classic from the author of Rebecca. Frenchman’s Creek is like Poldark meets Marie Antoinette. It’s set in Cornwall in the 1700s and features a swashbuckling French pirate and a lady of the court who’s left her husband in London while she visits her lands in Cornwall. A strange romance blossoms and there’s tension and will-they-won’t-they elements all set in the wonderful Cornwall. Well worth a read.
