Best Book Bargains at The Works | Summer 2023
If you’re after a book bargain and don’t know where to start, then head to The Works online! They have a fantastic selection of novels available for under £5 – for the most part – and today I thought I would share some of my favourites.
Best Book Bargains at The Works this Summer
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid – £5
I read this during lockdown with my book club and it was one of my favourite reads of 2020. Set during the Golden Era of Hollywood, the story follows Evelyn Hugo as she rises the ranks from near-poverty to movie stardom. Along the way, she gets married multiple times, but the many relationships she has are specific, beautiful, tragic and wholesome. A wonderful story with a great twist…
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes by Suzanne Collins – £5
If you want to read the book before you see the movie this winter, then get it in The Works for just £5 now. I wasn’t a major fan of the story, but if you loved The Hunger Games trilogy then it passes muster at the very least.
Careering by Daisy Buchanan – £2.50
If you’re a woman in your 20s-30s and working in a job that you’re not sure you love OR you’re thinking of changing jobs entirely, then this is a good book of you. Only £2.50 and in their 3 for £6 deal, this is a strong contemporary women’s fiction novel.
Lessons in Chemistry – £5
Soon to be an Apple TV must-watch with Brie Larson, this modern classic is all about Elizbeth Zott, a scientist who has a child out of wedlock. The pitch is that she becomes a popular TV chef using science to reach the masses, which is true, but not until 50% of the way through. This is a story of a woman going it alone in the 1960s, with a child, unmarried and with a brilliant brain that she’s not allowed to use. A feminist, comedy with romantic elements.
Slow Horses by Mick Herron – £2.50
If you love the Apple TV series with Gary Oldman and Jack Lowden, then you’ll love the book just as much. This thriller set in Slough House in London, following disgraced agents trying to solve unpopular cases, is only £2.50 and part of the 3 for £6 deal.
The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake – £5
This fantasy series was all the rage a few months ago and is still only £5 in The Works. Following six magicians who are invited to join the secret Alexandrian Society, there are only five places. They have to prove that they have what it takes to join the secret society, studying and working on their magic, but will all of them survive?
There are some fabulous books available at The Works for under £5 at the moment. From popular BookTok books – they have a whole section! – to new must-reads and fantasy must-haves. Which books will you be picking up? Let me know in the comments below.
