Anti-TBR Tag

It’s been a few weeks since I last did a tag on my blog, so here goes. This is the Anti-TBR tag, and it was created by Nicole at Nicole & Her Books on YouTube.

A popular book EVERYONE loves that you have no interest in reading?

I think the latest book that everyone seems to be talking about, but I have no interest in is The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang. I believe this is the first in a fantasy series that was first published in 2018 but has recently seen massive pick-up on BookTube. It’s not my favourite genre and I haven’t felt the pull to pick it up.

A classic book (or author) you don’t have an interest in reading?

I really struggle with Thomas Hardy. I’ve tried his shorter novel Under the Greenwood Tree but I did not connect with it at all. A lot of my friends really enjoy his work, but I don’t think his novels are for me.

A problematic author whose books you have no interest in reading?

I want to say J.K.Rowling, as her stance on transgender women is horrible. However, I will continue to re-read Harry Potter as that series is much bigger than her now, but I’m opting out of reading any of her future works for sure. The other problematic author I will not be reading is David Starkey.

An author you have read a couple of books from & have decided their books are not for you?

I’ve read a few of Ian McEwan’s books and I just don’t think his books are for me. I did enjoy The Children Act – although enjoy is probably not the right way to describe it – but I’ve never enjoyed any of his other work. I’ve read Atonement three times, and I still don’t know why I did because I simply don’t like it. As such, I’ll be giving Ian McEwan’s books a miss from now on.

A genre you have no interest in OR a genre you tried to get into & couldn’t?

Horror. I’ve no interest in any type of horror. The only horror books I’ve read have been accidental – as in the pitch was all wrong for the book it actually was! – or because it was an element of a mixed-genre book.

A book you have bought but will never read? (this can be a book you have unhauled/returned to the library unread)

I think I would have to say Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman. I like to think that one day I’ll read this book because I love learning about myths. But I really don’t enjoy Neil Gaiman’s writing style and I don’t think this book is going to give me what I want from it.

A series you have no interest in reading OR a series you started & have dnf’d?

I’ve no interest in reading any of Robin Hobb’s series. A lot of people I know love these fantastical tomes but I’m not the massive fantasy series, and I know that I rarely read fantasy unless first introduced to it via a TV or film adaptation. Until such time, I doubt I’ll be reading any series by Robin Hobb.

A new release you have no interest in reading?

And finally, the latest release I’ve heard a lot about is A Court of Silver FIames by Sarah J Maas. This is the fourth book in the ACATAR series, but it’s also a sort of spin-off from what I hear. I’ve got the first two books in the ACATAR series but I’m not sure when, if ever, I’ll get around to reading them. So, for now, I have no interest in this new release.

And that’s the Anti-TBR Tag. If you want to take part copy over the questions to your blog, Instagram, or share your answers via YouTube or in the comments below.
