21 Things I Want to Do in 2021
This time last year I shared a post about 20 things I wanted to do in 2020. Of course, nearly all of those were a write-off since we were in lockdown for most of 2020. However, that hasn’t stopped me from being hopeful and creating a list of 21 things I want to do in 2021 – despite being in a lockdown once again?!
Out of the 20 things I wanted to do in 2020 I managed to complete 5 of them, which isn’t bad considering the year we had.
This list is perhaps a little ambitious given the way we’re entering 2021. But I live in hope that 2021 will bring better things than in 2020, eventually. Fingers crossed!
This was actually on my 2020 list and it remains something I really want to do – however bonkers it may sound! I love goats and I hate yoga, so combining the two of them sounds like an interesting experiment that will either go horribly wrong or be fantastic. Either way, I would love to try this in 2021.
Do an online course
I love learning and it would be great to expand my horizons in 2021 by undertaking an online course. Be it on Skillshare or a short course at a university, I would like to try something new this year.
I write a lot of fiction and am also a journalist, and share on my blog but I don’t consider my writing ‘non-fiction’. To me, non-fiction is a book or an essay on a specific topic, or a memoir. I’d like to try writing non-fiction purely for fun in 2021 and see where it leads me.
Go to Disneyland Paris
So, I was meant to go to Disneyland Paris for my 25th birthday in 2020 with a few friends. But then lockdown happened and we had to postpone it three times. This will be the fourth time we book it and hopefully the last! I’m considering June but given the current climate maybe December 2021 might be better… I don’t know yet.
Go clubbing in London
This is an odd one for me, but after being in isolation for so long I would really like a night to let loose. I’ve never gone clubbing in London – probably for good reason – but it’s something I feel I should try at least once in my twenties.
Go to Dishoom
Everyone I know loves Dishoom, and always appears to be there (when we’re not in lockdown), yet I have never been. I feel this is something I really need to fix.
Attend a book launch party
Although I work in publishing I haven’t been to a book launch party since 2018. It’s been a while and I can’t even blame lockdown for it because there was a year where I didn’t go to any, purely because I was already busy on the night or I was ill. In 2021 I would like to go back to attending book launches and supporting my authors.
Dye my hair
I haven’t dyed my hair (not a different colour at least – highlights don’t count!) since I left university. In 2021, to kick off the New Year (or the Spring!), I think a new hairstyle is in order.
Finish writing another book
In 2020 I managed to write TWO complete books. That’s insane, even to me. I don’t expect to repeat that feat in 2021, but I would like to write one other full book if I can.
Go to Kew Gardens
I’ve been saying I would go to Kew since I moved to London in 2017, and I’ve yet to fulfill that promise to myself. 2021 is the year. It has to be!
Go to a Flea Market or Car Boot Sale
I adore finding bargains, there’s no high like it in my book. And since I’m very into history and home décor I would love to go to a flea market or car boot sale and find some affordable vintage/antiques for my rental.
Have a house party
Who would have thought having a house party would be such a luxury? After 2020, wouldn’t it be great to have more than five people you know in the house with you? I’ve been meaning to have people around my flat since I moved in last year, and yet so far the only visitors have been my parents, my brother, and my best friend and her sister. All at separate times of course!
Buy a Houseplant
This is an odd thing to have on a yearly to-do list, but I really would like to get a houseplant this year. I’m not so sure I’ll keep it alive, but I’d like to try.
Visit the Circus
I’ve never been to the circus. I was recently told that this was shocking, but it never seemed high on my to-do list. But now I want to support the arts industry, and going to the circus seems like a good shout.
Follow my horoscope for one month
This is a really odd thing to add to my yearly to-do list, but it’s a project I’m interested to try. I’m not massively into astrology in any way – although I am a very proud Gemini – but I would love to see what following my horoscope for a month would lead to. Also, I really want to track my horoscope daily in a vlog/monologue Instagram stories, etc. Watch this space!
Be on TV
I’m re-adding this to my list from 2020. I did a recording for Mail+ about lockdown and Christmas and that went on their website, which is a new string to my bow. But I would love to do a TV recording one day. Maybe in 2021, that goal will come true.
Try a new class
Be it yoga, pole dancing, a gym class, or cocktail-making, I would love to try a class in 2021 and break out of my doing the same-old-same-old routine that I’ve developed in 2020.
Have a Tarot card reading
After the last year, I would like an idea of what’s to come in my future. Again, not so sure I believe in tarot and seeing the future in cards, but it’s a worthy experience I’d at least like to try.
Read 101 books
I managed to read over 100 books in 2020 and I would like to keep up the good reading streak by reading 101 in 2021. I always said I would never push myself to read more than 100 books a year, but adding on an extra 1 seems like a fun challenge.
Run 10 Workshops
In 2020, I started my #MarketYourMarketing Workshops. In 2021 I would like to continue these workshops with panels as well as my solo lectures and run at least 10 events throughout the year.
Have a good year
Yes, I know this is a bit ethereal for a ’21 things to do in 2021′ list, but I do want to have a genuinely good year this year. Whatever that may look like.
