12 Days of Christmas Book Tag

It wouldn’t be Blogmas without a book tag. Today’s tag is the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag, created by LizzieLovesBook on Christmas.

Each question is based on the 12 Days of Christmas poem.

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: A Partridge in a Pear Tree

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

Starting with a tough one! And I don’t think I can narrow it down to one. So I would say my two favourite standalone are The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd and The Reader by Bernhard Schlink.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave me to: Two Turtle Doves

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

Hmm… Immediately my brain takes me back to my Twilight days. But Edward and Bella aren’t really a true pairing. I would say John Thorne and Margaret Hale from North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell. It’s a solid love story, with an enemy to lovers beginning.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave me to me: Three French Hens

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

My favourite is trilogy is The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I read all three books in less than two days. They were totally addictive and great reads for a late teenager.

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love gave to me: Four Calling Birds

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I mean, it’s problematic, but I re-read Harry Potter every year and it is the symbol of my childhood. So I have to say Harry Potter is my favourite.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Five Golden Rings

One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite Villain/Antagonist?

Ooh I love a villain! The epitome of a villain to me is Dolores Umbridge – not Voldemort. Umbridge is bad for the love of being bad. At least Voldemort had a reason, he was terrified of death. But Umbridge was just evil.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Six Geese a Laying

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

The world of Westeros in George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire series is so detailed. Even believable, despite the inclusion of dragons and White Walkers.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Seven Swans a Swimming

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

I don’t think I’ve read many books with an animal sidekick. The only one that comes to mind is Hedwig in Harry Potter.

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Eight Maids a Milking

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

The Hundred Foot Journey by Richard C. Morais. If you love French or Indian food, then you’ll love this book. But have food on standby!

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Nine Ladies Dancing

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

I really like Marianne in Normal People. She’s flawed and emotionally traumatised, but she knows what she wants and goes after it. Even if she and Connell never seem to be on the same wavelength half the time. There’s a realistic strength to her, that I respect.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: Ten Lords a Leaping

How about your favourite leading lad?

I always had a soft spot for Peeta in The Hunger Games series. He’s not the strongest – physically he is, but otherwise no – but he’s so nice.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to: Eleven Pipes Piping

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

I adored the audiobook of Me by Elton John. It was narrated by Taron Egerton who played Elton in Rocketman. He narrates the story wonderfully, as well as sing snippets of Elton’s song.

On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 Drummers Drumming

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

Ooh at this stage of the year I would say my favourite read of the year is The Radium Girls by Kate Moore. I found the story of the affected women emotional and important. It was so well-written and totally gripping. But be warned it’s quite graphic.

And that’s the 12 Days of Christmas Book Tag. I tag everyone who fancies taking part. And if you do share a post, let me know in the comments below.
