Best Bookshops in London

I am a resident of London, finally, and one of my favourite things to do at the weekend is wandering around the city visiting my favourite bookshops. I love finding a bargain and picking up a new read, particularly when I’m in a reading slump or I’m off on holiday.

Today I thought I would share my favourite Bookshops in London!

Any Amount of Books – Charing Cross Road

(Nearest Tube Station: Leicester Square)

My favourite shop in the whole of London. Selling both secondhand and brand new books this shop offers books at discount prices in a beautiful tiny shop, which makes me feel like I’m in Harry Potter. I’ve found many an amazing bargain in here and the booksellers are lovely too!

Foyles – Charing Cross Road

(Nearest Tube Station: Piccadilly Circus/Leicester Square)

If you’re looking for a book, any book, you should go to Foyles because you’ll find it. With thousands of books and hundreds of collections, this is a shop you can spend a whole day in! With a literary air to it, it is the perfect pit-stop for any book lover in London.

Waterstones (Piccadilly)

(Nearest Tube Station: Piccadilly Circus)

Another massive bookshop where a lot of amazing book events are held. I love browsing the Waterstones events page for things that are happening here, there are normally at least 2 an evening! With 6 floors full of books it’s a book haven for literature lovers.

Persephone Books

(Nearest Tube Station: Russell Square)

As a feminist, this bookshop speaks to me. As a minimalist, clean freak it also speaks to me. It’s a beautiful shop off a road near Russell Square full to the brim of reprinted classics from out-of-print novels written in the late 1800s to poetry collections from housewives in America in 1960s. With each of the books sharing the same grey cover, with unique end pages, there are wonderful books to be discovered.

Skoob Books

(Nearest Tube Station: Russell Square)

A wonderful secondhand bookshop in Russell Square. Skoob is books spelled backward, don’t you know. An underground shop full of books from previous homes you can find a bargain amongst the fiction, non-fiction, classics and academic texts. It also houses nearly every penguin classic ever!

Housman’s – Caledonian Road

(Nearest Tube Station: Kings Cross, St Pancras)

A political bookshop now. Just off of Kings Cross there is a small bookshop… that sounds like the beginning of a story. With a large range of non-fiction texts from history, biography, politics and social studies, I always like to pop in and see what the latest feminist text is.

Daunt Books – Marylebone High Street

(Nearest Tube Station: Baker Street)

gorgeous bookshop with an amazing array of books. With all the latest fiction in the front and perfectly organised bookshelves (by country) of fiction/non-fiction books in the back. You won’t need an Instagram filter for this shop! Also, random fact, the shop was once home to a paint shop owner by Charles Dance’s family (Who Do You Think You Are!)

What are your favourite bookstores in London? I have several I still need to visit on the outskirts of London, and beyond!

Happy Reading!

Love Ellie x
